April 6-8 2004 is the one year anniversary of 200 of us answering Marianne Williamson's first of two invitations in 2003 to join her in Washington, D.C., to help create the cabinet level Department of Peace. Look what we have all accomplished in our first 12 months!

We have educated, we have networked, we have travelled, we have fund-raised, we have found our voices...our passion...our truth. We have hugged Dennis Kucinich many times; we have created websites; we have walked with the Steps for Peace walkers; we have written many letters; we have dialogued with many Congressional representatives and their staff; we have met wonderful men & women & children; we have created Christmas cards and DOP Info cards http://www.dopcampaign.org/flyers/ca rds.htm and T-shirts and sweatshirts and all kinds of fun DOP gear http://www.cafeshops.com/world_of_p eace

We are never discouraged because we have the entire DOP Campaign family as our cheerleaders: Marianne, Lynn, Matthew, Debbie...and each one of us advocates in the United States and all over Mother Earth. Illinois and New Mexico have been working on their Department of Peace initiatives for years before they ever heard of the DOP Campaign...bravo for your dedication! Canada and England are working on their Department of Peace efforts...we are all making this happen...in our states, in our countries, on our precious planet Earth.

"PEACE ON EARTH,
PEACE IN SPACE"
&
THE DEPARTMENT OF PEACE CAMPAIGN

In 1792, Founding Father Dr. Benjamin Rush wrote an extraordinary essay titled "A Plan of a Peace Office for the United States".

Today in 2006, 214 years later, the Campaign to create a cabinet level Department of Peace in the federal government, has grown from an idea to a local movement to a national movement to an international movement...and inevitably will evolve into a galactic movement.

The synchronistic story below illustrates in yet another way how we all have come together to BE peace at this time in human history.

"Peace on Earth, Peace in Space"

This extraordinary painting connects artists Robert and Louise McCall, NASA, school children, the Department of Peace Campaign, Vincent's Restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona, and a birthday surprise.

In 2000, "NASA space artist" Robert McCall was invited to fly from his home in Arizona to NASA headquarters in Houston for a very special assignment.
Robert was asked to spend 90 minutes talking with school children about the NASA mission of space travel and exploration while painting one of his celebrated masterpieces. Time ran out, and Robert's painting which he titled

"Peace on Earth, Peace In Space" was not quite finished.
(Robert's paintings hang in the Smithsonian Institute, in the Pentagon, in the National Gallery of Art, in EPCOT, in the Johnson Space Center, etc.

Robert painted the 360 degree rotunda at Challenger Learning Center in Peoria, Arizona, as well as several MGM posters for Stanley Kubrick's movie masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey".)

Fast forward to March 2005, when Robert & Louise McCall met Terri Mansfield at an Art Renaissance lunch at Vincent's Restaurant in Phoenix, AZ.

When Terri explained the work she has been doing to campaign for the creation of a cabinet level Department of Peace, the McCalls were intrigued with the historical roots of this idea and invited her to visit their nearby studio.

Later that very day, the McCalls unpacked a crate which had been unopened in their garage for five years.
Inside the crate was the unfinished painting "Peace on Earth, Peace in Space" which Robert had started 5 years before, and which the McCalls had forgotten about.

"Wait till Terri sees this", Bob said to Louise.

Terri was overwhelmed with the significance of this painting, its title, the fact that it was painted at NASA for the children, and its implications for the work that thousands of Dept. of Peace Campaign advocates have been doing to de-escalate violence and to cultivate peace in all local and international communities.
The McCalls magnanimously gave Terri permission to use the image of "Peace on Earth, Peace in Space" for fundraising purposes.

A few months later in February 2006 Terri's husband Mike purchased the painting for her from Robert McCall as a birthday surprise...the rest, as they say, is history...or herstory...or ourstory...the Department of Peace...

"Peace on Earth, Peace in Space".
